Hi my name's Anthony Beck and I'm a Research Fellow at the School of Computing, University of Leeds.
I'm currently employed on the VISTA project (amazing how many VISTA projects there are!), researching into ways to reduce street works by improving the integration and presentation of utility data. This is principally a DTI funded project that's due to complete sometime in 2010. As of now things are looking very promising!
I used to be an archaeologist, and I still keep my hand in. I specialised in computer applications principally GIS, database design, field recording, ubiquitous computing, survey and remote sensing. In 1999 I started a NERC funded PhD by research examining the archaeological applications of historic and modern high resolution satellite imagery. Unfortunately (with heavy sarcasm) my study area was in Syria....... So I spent approximately a year in Syria between 1999 and 2004. It's a great country and I strongly urge anybody who reads this to go there.
